This is a beginner level class. We will warp the rigid heddle loom and learn some tips and tricks for creating a smooth weaving experience. You can weave off a short warp so that we can warp a second time to reinforce the steps. More advanced weavers can also try a few pick up techniques or hand manipulated lace techniques.

Registration Fees are paid when you register to attend the FTWG Conference. Materials fees are paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. You should plan to pay the materials fee in cash.
- Yarn. Any worsted weight or DK weight yarn, in several colors. We will use 600-800 yards during the class. Cotton is preferred but any non-fuzzy fiber can be used for a first time warping. Think about weaving a small table runner.
- Empty paper towel or gift wrap tubes, if available
- Paper grocery bags at least 2 or 3
- Scissors, tape measure, and sewing needle appropriate for the size yarn you are weaving
- About 1 foot square of rubber shelf liner, from the dollar store
- Note taking materials
- Rigid Heddle Loom, with clamps and peg for warping, and the shuttles that came with the loom.
- Teacher will have several looms available for use. Students would able to purchase the loom after class if desired.
- If students have their own loom they are able to put on a longer warp for the second warping to make a scarf and continue weaving at home. Yarn required for a scarf would be about 400 yards.
Barbara has been weaving over 20 years, and has taught all sort of crafts since the early 1980s. She currently teaches at the Knit and Stitch, a yarn shop in Cocoa Florida, where for 16 years she has held classes in knitting, crochet, and weaving. Barbara often says, "I may not be able to DO everything, but I love that I can TRY everything!" As a military wife, Barbara has lived in numerous states, and worked at everything from teacher, accountant, seamstress, benefit specialist in the corporate setting, including the shuttle program. Barbara loves teaching rigid heddle weaving as an easy entry point into weaving with a lower cost to get started, simple warping and a wide availability of yarns that can be used.
