Clasped Weft

A clasped weft is made by having two threads enter an open shed, from opposite sides of the loom, and interlock somewhere in the middle of that shed. It’s totally up to the weaver’s discretion where the clasp is placed. The clasped join can be shifted from side to side giving the look of an EKG read out, or can be carefully stacked on top of each other resulting in a geometric appearance. You might already be familiar with the city scape designs or a piano key pattern usually associated with clasped weft. What if we push our designs up a little? Come and learn the basic fundamentals of clasped weft while weaving a useful sampler that can be used later as a towel.

Instructor will supply yarns other than 8/2 cotton and threads to add interest to each student’s sampler.
Registration Fees are paid when you register to attend the FTWG Conference. Materials fees are paid directly to the instructor at the beginning of class. You should plan to pay the materials fee in cash.
- A materials-needed list and warping instructions will be sent out ahead of the class.
- Each student should arrive with a warped loom.
- Students will mainly use 8/2 cotton for the warp and weft.
Tom has been weaving, teaching and writing about weaving and spinning for more than 40 years. He is currently teaching at Red Stone Glen Fiber Arts Studio in York Haven, PA. Besides weaving examples for teaching and articles, Tom loves collecting and studying antique textiles and ethnic textiles from different parts of the World. His studies inspire much of what he loves to weave.
