2027 Class – Let’s Play with Sashiko and Boro Patchwork

Let's Play with Sashiko and Boro Patchwork

Let’s Play with Sashiko and Boro Patchwork
with Constance Lee

This class will explore the combination of traditional Japanese Boro (tattered) patchwork and Sashiko (little stabs) stitching.

You will design and make a Boro-inspired textile piece of art. Sashiko and Boro together is simply slow stitching into something beautiful. This is a project based workshop meaning, it is possible to finish a few items for your home, e.g. small pillow, placemats, coasters, etc. Japanese fabrics, denim remnants, Sashiko thread, notions, and templates/stencils will be provided. You may bring your favorite remnants or woven pieces to patch with.

A gallery of Sashiko & Boro-inspired, samples will be on display. However, the ultimate goal is to enjoy a playful day of designing and slow stitching with other like-minded classmates.
