Pin Loom Overshot Weaving and Joining; Creating a Spooky Scarf with or without the Grim Reaper/Romantic Hood
with Margaret Stump
This class focuses on the necessary skills to create your own scary or romantic hooded (or unhooded) scarf.
Students will build skills in weaving on the 4″ pin loom, weaving overshot/patterned squares and joining the squares using various joins. Students will have an opportunity to weave squares in a variety of overshot patterns. They will be able to practice essential pin loom joins and gain familiarity with the types of joins that are used variously for scarves, bags, blankets and three-dimensional projects. Students will receive comprehensive instructions for a variety of overshot patterns as well as printed instructions on the pin loom joins and full scarf instructions.
Our theme this year is “Spooky Weavings on the Pin Loom” and there will be special bat shaped and skull shaped overshot designs available for an especially spooky scarf…or students can choose their own favorite patterns and color way.
Students are encouraged to bring approximately 312 yds of black/red self-striping yarn in dk or worsted weight to get started on their scarf. Students can choose not to start their scarf during the class. There will be a variety of yarns available in class to create weaving samples and joining samples for practice and to take home.
Margaret’s weaving classes emphasize individual creativity and choice. You are welcome to build your weaving skills with plans to take those skills in an entirely different direction. Each person’s vision enhances the class as a whole.
