Weave Spooky “Day of the Dead” Flowers and Art Bag
with Margaret Stump
This three-hour class is intended to give each student all of the material support, information and skills they will need to finish the creation of their own Woven Flowers and Day of the Dead Art Bag at home.
This class will invite students to begin the process of joining and embellishing their weaving – turning it into their own unique Art Bag with woven embellishments. In addition to receiving complete instructions for making an Art Bag, students will receive a rigid bag bottom and a complete sewn lining for the bag, and can choose from a variety of metal and other embellishments to add to their creation.
Students will need to bring in woven squares to be used in the Art Bag, but are invited to bring in as as many squares as they have in order to start the project. The finished bag requires sixteen squares for the side panels, four squares for the bottom and four squares or 2″x4″ rectangles for the closure. Each flower uses two or three pin loom squares. Students are not required to bring in the total number of squares needed for a finished bag, they are welcome to bring what they have and begin the process of creating their Art Bag, knowing that they will have everything they need to complete the process at home.
Art Bags are intended as an open-ended, creative way to utilize woven squares that may not have worked into other projects. Students are encouraged to bring a wide variety of pin loom woven squares, perfect and imperfect, to add texture and soul to the work. The total number of squares needed for the project is twenty-four, but the bag will work better if they are not too similar.
Margaret’s weaving classes emphasize individual creativity and choice. You are welcome to come and build on this pin loom weaving information and experience while taking those skills in an entirely different direction. Students should be able to leave class with all the materials and experience needed for their Art Bag.
