2027 Class – Handwoven Lace Techniques

Handwoven Lace Techniques with Karen Donde

Handwoven Lace Techniques
with Karen Donde

Huck Lace, Swedish Lace and Atwater-Bronson Lace are all loom-controlled woven laces created by inserting carefully planned floats into a plain weave structure.

In this 2-1/2 day round-robin workshop, participants will learn the differences between these three different techniques for weaving lacy, open fabrics. Three different drafts for each style of lace, with four-and eight-shaft options, will be spread evenly among participants to illustrate different ways to design with lace weaves. Some drafts will be assigned to two looms to help keep the round-robin moving. Participants will take home a collection of lace weave drafts and their woven samples.

If time permits, the instructor will discuss other techniques such as hand-worked laces like leno and Brooks Bouquet, as well as bead leno and canvas weaves.
