Celebrating Diversified Plain Weave
with Tom Knisely
The structure was named by weaver, Klara Cherepov. Klara published a manuscript in 1972 that introduced the weaving community to this versatile weave.
Diversifeid Plain Weave can be recognized by its sturdy and firm hand. It lends itself to upholstery fabrics, placemats, table runners, blankets or anywhere you want a firmly woven cloth with very little drape.
In this class we’ll be weaving with both fine and thick threads. You’ll be creating a sampler that resembles an overshot pattern. Various treadling patterns are possible and your finished sampler can be used as a table runner, table squares, hot pads, a dresser scarf or a beautiful sampler to hang on the wall of your studio, to reference for future projects in Diversified Plain Weave.
