Mary Waite / Weaver & Dyer
Uniquely dyed warps and skeins.
I started weaving 50 years ago and in that time I have woven many different items. I mainly spend my time now dyeing yarns, both pre-wound warps, and skeins. I use plant based cellouse fibers mainly; such as cotton, rayon, and Tencel/lyocell.
For the warps, I have yarns from 3/2 sizes down to 20/2. The skeins are in various yarns, plain yarns, boucles, krinkle, slubs, and mixed yarns.
I use PRO MX fiber reactive dyes and the colors are colorfast.
The way that I dye my warps is different from the way most people dye them. Each warp will be different, even the ones that I dye together. I came to dyeing in this way by wondering what would happen by trying some different. The results can have the appearance of shifted warps, ikat, small color pooling, and subtle color changes.
